RYA First Aid

This one-day course covers all the usual first aid subjects, but from a boating perspective. It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat, whether on inland waters, rivers, estuaries or on cross channel passages. This course is MCA approved and satisfies the requirements for Coastal Skipper Yachtmaster and Advanced Powerboat certificates of competence and some commercial work afloat.

Course Information:


  • Salty HQ, Cowes, PO31 7HT

  • Bespoke locations on request on island and mainland locations


  • 1 Day (Usually 9am - 5pm)

Pre Requisits:

  • None

  • Minimum age 13 (Must be accompanied by an adult if under 18)

What is Covered:

  • CPR and AED for adults and children

  • The recovery position in a confined space 

  • Treatment for bleeding & catastrophic bleeding

  • Recognition & treatment off angina & heart attack

  • Recognition & treatment of head injuries

  • Drowning protocol

  • Cold shock

  • Hypothermia from immersion and/or exposure

  • Seasickness 

  • Dehydration

  • First Aid & Category Cat C Kits

  • Medical assistance or advice by VHF

  • Helicopter rescue

What's Included:

  • Day of First Aid training

  • Use of all the necessary kit and consumables

  • First Aid Handbook

  • RYA First Aid Certificate (including Cat C. endorsement)

  • Tea & Coffee

Not Included:

  • Lunch

Certificate valid for: 

  • The RYA First Aid certificate is valid for 3 years. 

  • To revalidate / refresh / re-qualify you simply complete the one-day course again
